Support for WMS?

Is support for web map service being considered for a future release? If not, it would be VERY nice to have the ability to link to external GIS databases such as, say, oh, OpenStreetMap.

Currently there are no plans, but the final feature list for v2 is not yet complete. So maybe, if it is too time consuming, I can add it.
