Lock Ups

Postby chris1165 » September 17 2006

I hate to post messages with very little detail but FSFK keeps locking up again.  Originally I thought it might be because I didn't have scenery turned on, but that wasn't the case.  I've had at least a dozen successful flights but recently I purchased the PMDG 747 and have't been able to complete a long flight.  Could it be something in this aircraft that's causing the issue?  Short flights such as KJFK to KBWI have been okay, for the most part.  FSFK just stops responding but I can't tell when.

The only thing I am using is ACARS while in flight.  No maps or messenger service is turned on.  While trouble shooting, I am eliminating things such as taking screen shots, ALT tabbing over to FSFK and so on.  My next step is to turn off ACARS to see if this problem continues.

Is there any advanced logging that I can turn on to do further debugging?

Currently there is no direct logging. What kind of weather mode are you using?

I am using weather generated every 15 minutes I believe.  I'll have to double check.  I did run two flights yesterday that last more than an hour and both ran fine.  However, I did not have ACARS turned on.  I'm wondering if it is either that or the weather?  I'll run some more tests.  Also, if I turn ACARS back on, I'm going to change the config file to upload every 120 instead of every 60 and see if that helps.  It could be the webserver and it gets hung up during some update.

I meant the weather mode you have configured in FSFK. So which one do you use?

My apologies.  Under options, I'm using:

Weather Mode: Live Weather
Weather Server: Aviation Digital Data Service
TAF: Aviation Digital Data Service
Alternate Weather: None
Alternate TAF: None
checkbox on Download for all airports, TAF and ALOFT.

OK. Just an idea: Can you please change this mode to "Flight Simulator 2004", disable all server (value should '# None #') and disable TAF and ALOFT support.

Let me know, if this helps or not.

So far so good.  I've completed two flights so far with those settings you suggested and no lock ups.  I'm running through all the orignal flights that locked up before and see what results that brings.  If all goes well, I'll drop the 120 to 60 refresh rate in the ASCAR config file to make sure that wasn't the fix either.

I'll keep you posted and thanks for support Thomas.  You have a great product!

Ok I believe this is fixed.  I've completed seven straight long flights with those new weather settiings and not one problem.  I even increased the ASCAR refresh rate back to 60 and still no issues.  So it would appear that my weather settings were wrong?

Your settings are fine, but I already found out that the Microsoft API used to request web pages sometimes throws an exception on some systems. I haven't found out yet why this happens.

I believe I have a similar problem. Not done as much as the above posts in checking the fault but will try. The only difference I can see is my weather is set for Active Sky 6.

Will FSFK pick up these weather settings if I set it to Flight Simulator as you have mentioned above?

Found my problem.

Just done a flight that had all programs running (AS6, SB3, FS Real Time & FSFK) opened the live flight map in FSFK and everything seemed fine. As soon as I clicked the icon for the flight updates it crashed to desktop. Now this will only work with the ACARS connected I take it cause if so that's my fault. Tried connection the acars and said the plane wasn't loaded which I know I have installed it and had the right plane installed.

Re: Lock Ups

Postby Japo32 » January 12 2008

I will not say that is because of FsKeeper.... but recently I have also LockUps on Fs9. Maybe I press the key of a pannel and "dong" (sound of lockup) black screen... and freazed.

I Use AS6.5 in IVAO..... with fskeeper

Could be because of AS6.5? How can I solve it if so? I would like to use ActiveSky 6.5 also with fskeeper in IVAO to report my flights to Clickair VA.

Thanks

I also experience FS locking up *every time* with FSFK active. This never happened with older versions though...

Is the ACARS Device active? Otherwise I really doubt that the cause is FSFK as it doesn't write anything back to FS. It just reads the values via FSUIPC. What is the faulting DLL in the error report?

Danke Thomas für die schnelle Antwort!

The device was connected, and there never was an error report as FS either cracked back to desktop or, even worse, the whole pc rebooted. I can reproduce this, and I am really sure that it's something with FSFK as, for instance, last night I was able to complete a 6 hour flight on the PMDG MD11, UTE, ASA, Radar Contact, FSmap, FSC, AIsmooth, 100% WOAI AI (all packages and flightplans installed!) to Heathrow using the VC only (TrackIR) without any problems (since I made a complete reinstall of FS9 taking care of all there is to know when setting it up I had never crashes and/or OOMs or whatever now for 3 weeks). This flight had been done after a whole day of working with the same PC without rebooting (!), and I rendered DV using Premiere and After Effects. I am lucky to say that the only way to deliberately crash my FS at the moment (knocks on wood) is running FSFK :( Sorry! Any idea?
